A case involving three drag racers was heard at Beijing Chaoyang District People’s Court on Monday, Beijing Evening News reported.
The three suspects were detained at the end of August for drag racing at night in Dongba, Chaoyang district.
The suspects were accused of dangerous driving, but they claimed that they were just curious as to how fast the cars could go and they had no idea about drag racing, the report said.
Under current Criminal Law, those found guilty of dangerous driving face detention and fines.
Police detained the three suspects after authorities set up a team to look into complaints by residents about drag racing around Dongba.
The expressway toward Beijing Capital International Airport, near Dongba, has become popular among drag racers.
The suspects reportedly came to the area every Saturday from 11 pm to 2 am, driving their cars at speeds in excess of 150 kilometers per hour, in the 50 kph zone, the report said.
