HONG KONG - Hong Kong's chief executive Leung Chun-Ying said on Tuesday that he had rejected a call for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government to take part in a televised debate on constitutional development.

Speaking before the Executive Council meeting, Leung said there are fundamental disagreements between the HKSAR government and the pan-democrats over the concept of civic nomination, which he reiterated does not comply with the Basic Law.

Leung said that while these differences exist, the debate would not bring any results.

In response to media inquiries about his seeking re-election, Leung said he would not rule out any possibility but for the meantime, he would focus on delivering and implementing the pledges he made in his election manifesto.
