Ecommerce trials scheduled for Shanghai

Shanghai has been included on the cross-border ecommerce zone list published by the central government on January 9. The decision was made in light of the success achieved by the China (Hangzhou) cross-border e-commerce pilot zone in Zhejiang province which was launched in March, 2015. As of October, the trial area realized a total business value of more than $1.7 billion. The Ministry of Commerce forecasts that cross-border ecommerce will hit 6.5 trillion yuan in 2016, and will grow at an annual growth rate of above 30 percent.

Shanghai to boost service trade

The municipal government of Shanghai will be implementing a three-year plan to accelerate its service trade and this particular industry will as a result account for more than 30 percent the city’s foreign trade. In order to reach the target of raising import and export volume to as much as $250 billion by 2018, Shanghai will accelerate high value-added service trade with measures such as outsourcing, consolidating traditional services in the transportation and tourism sectors, as well as exploiting emerging services in traditional Chinese medicine and digital industries.

The busier parent

The average time a mother in Shanghai spends performing childcare activities is 1.44 times more than her husband, reported the official website of Jiefang Daily. The survey also found that the time mothers spend doing housework is 1.63 times more. The survey also revealed that the main reason why 64.3 percent of the survey respondents are willing to have a second child is because they want their first child to have the company of a sibling.
