HAIKOU - A newly-built airport in Boao, Hainan province completed a test flight on Thursday, paving the way for its trial run starting next week.

The airport is expected to facilitate travel to the town of Boao for the annual Boao Forum for Asia, which will be held from March 22 to March 25 this year.

The airport currently can accommodate narrow-body jets like the Airbus 320 and Boeing 737. There is a plan to upgrade the airport in the future so that wide-body jets such as Boeing 747 can land.

Hainan Airlines will operate nine flights linking Boao with hub cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

The airport has one runway and one terminal. Its construction began in May last year, local officials said.
