Zhao Bo is among the painters who endeavor to push the frontier of painting. He distinguishes himself with the rare visual imagery on his canvas.
A current exhibition of the 31-year-old artist at Soka Art Center Beijing, titled Ideological Image, shows oil paintings that present illusive, vivid landscapes. But underneath the dreamy scenes, Zhao questions people's ignorance of distorted values and the lost self.
One can't help but be gripped by a sense of loneliness and emptiness which underlie the rich colors and fantastic scenes in Zhao's works.
The exhibition runs through Aug 30.
