South Korean artist Hwang Young-sung's solo exhibition in Shanghai is about his latest Poetry — Family Story series. The 74-year-old re-interprets Chinese characters and calligraphy with vibrant colors and new textures. He has added more dimensions to people's understanding of time and space, the past and present, and life and memory.

Among the prominent modern artists of South Korea, Hwang's works often feature an outburst of color and child-like playfulness. But underlying the simplicity of his artistic language are his sheer observation of human nature and infinite creativity.

The exhibition is being held at Shanghai Himalayas Museum through Nov 7.
