Mainland actress Zhao Wei will start filming her first directorial work in March.
To Our Youth that is Fading Away is based on a novel about two girls' love lives at college.
Zhao, a veteran actress who rose to stardom by being the lead in the popular TV drama Princess Huanzhu in 1998, won't star in the film.
She refuses to reveal the two lead actresses but says Taiwan star Mark Zhao will be one of the two lead actors.
Hong Kong director Stanley Kwan, an award-winning filmmaker known for his depiction of women, will produce the flick. His biopic of the late movie star Ruan Lingyu won Maggie Cheung the best actress award at the Berlin Film Festival in 1992.
