New girls, mad men - it's TV's Emmys

Lena Dunham - who created and stars in the Golden Globe winning comedy - revealed plans for a third series of the show and admitted she would love to extend its run from 10 episodes to 12.

Speaking on Alec Baldwin's podcast, she said: "We're starting season three at the end of March. I'm so excited.

"I would love that [to have 12 episodes instead of 10] I think that a little more would be just a little more storytelling real estate, and it would be amazing. But you know, so I shoot four-and-a-half months out of the year, then I'm editing, then I'm doing press, then I'm writing, then I'm back."

Lena recently admitted she was disappointed after DJ Howard Stern, who is a fan of, called her a "talentless fat chick".

Howard said: "I learned that this little fat chick writes the show and directs the show and that makes sense to me because she's such a camera hog that the other characters barely are on."

Lena replied: "I did find out that Howard Stern really hates ['Girls'], which. I'm a Howard Stern fan, and I believe he's earned the right to free speech, and he should go for it."
