Huang's parents were both actors, but perhaps performing was too close to his life that he didn't want to study it at all. Instead, Huang's interests were in math and sciences. He earned perfect score in chemistry when he participated in his high school entrance exam. During high school, Huang's math scores were almost always higher than 90 percent, and getting perfect scores in chemistry was not anything out of the ordinary for him. When time came for him to choose his major, despite his interests in chemistry, Huang still took his father's advice and applied for Beijing Film Academy, where he studied for four years and stayed on to teach even today.
