Organizers of the 2014 Huading Awards announced at a press conference on Thursday in San Gabriel in California that China's Huading Awards, a voter-based "Chinese Oscar" awards for top Chinese talent in entertainment, will be held for the first time in Hollywood on Sunday June 1 at the Ricardo Montalban Theater.
Established in 2007 by Beijing-based media company Global Talents Media Group, the Huading Awards have been held 11 times throughout the year so far at various Chinese venues, celebrating stars in all fields.
Huading Awards fall into five categories including film, TV, music, global film stars and variety shows. Global film satisfaction surveys will be released at Sunday's ceremony and reveal this year's best international film stars with the highest ratings among Chinese audiences.
It is the only purely voter-based award on film stars in entertainment industry in the world.
The Huading global film satisfaction survey is conducted by professional survey agencies on the street in 10 to 15 cities in China. Names of nominated film stars based on survey results will be released on major portals like Sohu, Sina and Netease to generate voting.
"The value of the Huading Award is that we want to establish the power of the Chinese audience. Chinese audience now have say in global entertainment industry, and this is what it means to the world," said Kun Wang, president of Global Talents Media Group and secretary-general of the Huading Awards Committee. "As soon as we started the first Huading Awards in 2007, we had the mission of making it a global award. "
Half of the stars Chinese audience choose from are international and most of them are from the US. "Hollywood movie stars and musical artists want to establish a connection with their fans in China," said Wang at the interview.
Veteran live-show producer Don Mischer - producer or director of numerous Academy Award shows, Olympics opening ceremonies, Super Bowl halftime shows and the Obama inauguration in Washington in 2009, joined the Huading Awards last year and will be the producer overseeing this Sunday's Huading night. As a most experienced hand at producing televised gala events, Don Mischer is expected to lure more Hollywood talent to the Chinese global awards event.
"We are dedicated to bringing China's film industry to the world by bridging 'China selection' and 'American production'," said Wang.
Quentin Tarantino, Nicole Kidman, Nicolas Cage, Sam Worthington, Jeremy Irons, and Mathew Perry were among the guests walking the red carpet at the Huading Awards in Macao in 2013.
