Comment on "A canny way to get things done" (China Daily, Jan 27)
I greatly admire the work ethics of Chinese people and their ability to make things happen. What I doubt, however, is whether this kind of growth is sustainable.
The economy gets a lot of its "power" from the low wages that the highly qualified Chinese workers are paid for incredibly long days' of hard work.
It's their sweat that makes their "superiors" richer. What would happen to the economy if workers ask for more rights, more salaries or more family time?
