Comment on "Govt to put brakes on official car use" (China Daily, March 9)

I strongly support the government move to curb the use of official cars, because it plays a large part in the cities' traffic jams apart from wasting huge amounts of taxpayers' money.

With traffic jams in urban areas becoming increasingly serious, it is time the authorities reduced the number of official vehicles.

It's good to hear that the central government has told some senior Party and government officials that they have to use vehicles three years more than what they do now. It shows the central authorities' determination to control the use of official cars.

But I also agree with a majority of netizens' views on the issue: the new rule will be difficult to implement because it's related to officials' interests. It's not rare to see vested interests obstructing reforms that could undermine their personal interests.

The government should take measures to guarantee the implementation of this policy, or else it will have little positive impact on society.
