Comment on "Legal solution to complaints" (China Daily, April 7)
I agree with the article. In many cases local officials have conflicts of interests and, hence, are unwilling to resolve the issues in a way that is fair to all.
One such example can be seen in the China Daily report, which says local officials sided with enterprises, even though they were polluting the environment seriously.
Local authorities should give people a fair hearing instead of forcing them to petition to the central authorities. Better education both for citizens and local officials will help bring about the changes that the report suggests.
