Comment on "China's dependence on foreign trade drops" (China Daily, Feb 16)
Exports are still the main way to ensure a nation's well-being, if it lacks the ability to be self-sustaining. And, in reality, there is no country that can produce everything that it needs. So maintaining a healthy balance between exports and imports is essential. As we learned from Japan and the Western world the key to maintaining a powerful export trade is a healthy industrial sector that has strong research and development capabilities, then the economy won't be overshadowed by financial market.
