Rich must help the poor
Comment on "New plan to reduce income inequality" (China Daily, May 23)
We need a promise and a timetable to solve this problem, and we want to see more details not a hollow plan. The way to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor is to shift a portion of money from the rich to the poor. This can be done through the tax system.
The rich must realize that helping the poor is not a charity but a responsibility. The root solution lies in improving the equality of opportunity. Moreover, I think it's time for the government to introduce competition into monopoly sectors as this is an even better way to adjust income distribution.
