Tourists should not work

Reading the article "Getting Z-visa hard task for young foreigners in China" (China Daily, May 28)

After reading the article I have the impression that tourists can work in China as long as they do not overstay their three-month visa. This is a problem.

A tourist should not be allowed to work because this reduces the opportunities for Chinese youngsters to find a job and a tourist will accept any working conditions because they know the job will only be temporary. This means the job market in China will remain in the hands of merciless bosses.

The other problem for me, and many other foreigners who are working legally in China, is we must renew our work permit and visa every year, admittedly it is a simple procedure, but the authorities could look into it and grant at least a two or three-year visa. There is some work to be done.

Too little too late

Comment on "Demolition of HK-donated school 'totally wrong'" (China Daily website, May 28)

The spokesman of the Sichuan provincial government said that they will improve the supervision of projects funded by donations from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions to ensure the donors' wishes are respected and there is better management of construction projects in the future.

A little late for that now, isn't it?
