Men don't want to look up
It's a strong phenomenon in China that the so-called leftover women are always successful professional women in big cities. I think it is not just an age issue, but is related to Chinese people's traditional concepts of marriage. One study found that more than half of the Chinese women who responded preferred to marry a man above their level, educationally and economically. Very few Chinese women are willing to settle for a man under their level. As for Chinese men, the majority of them want a woman under their level. Very few men in China are willing to accept an equal woman, and even fewer want a wife that is above their level. It seems to me that men in China are too concerned with their own egos. Too many of them feel they will lose face if their girlfriends or wives have a higher degree or earn more money than them. This, in my opinion, is wrongheaded, perhaps that is because I am a Western man. Men should be proud of their girlfriends or wives' achievements.
