Comment on "China's US debt holdings dip lower, again" (China Daily, Aug 18)
The government should use its capital to improve the infrastructure in remote areas of China in order to establish better links between them and the rest of the country. The social security net, especially for the poor, should be widened and consist of more welfare so that people are not forced into desperate situations and take desperate actions, even commit crimes.
Also, the government could set up factories and industries overseas to produce goods for local consumption as well as for exports to other countries.
China can use its money in better ways than lending it to the US, which uses it to build weapons and invade other countries. Lending money to the US also means near-zero returns and questioning by China's intention of acting as a creditor to the US.
