Zhejiang to donate surplus Para Games money

HANGZHOU - The surplus money of upcoming 8th National Para Games will be donated to help challenged group, according to local organizers here on Monday.

"Our budget is 528 million yuan (about $83.1 million) while our actual amount is about 360 million yuan. After the Games, we will donate all the balance to help the challenged," said organizing committee vice president and secretary general Shi Limin.

The 8th Games will open here on Oct 11. Apart from the 19 Games venues and 38 reception hotels in Zhejiang province, air port, railway stations and public facilities in hosting cities already finished reformed constructions. Most of non-obstacle facilities tend to be reserved after the Games.

Unlike past edition, the eight-day Games didn't build athletes' village and venues were mostly on hand already. The Games attracted a record 2,584 athletes from 35 delegations including Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions.

Till now, 712 non-obstacle hotel rooms for visually impaired, dysaudia and wheelchair-users came to service. Non-obstacle toilets will be no less than 10 per cent of number of non-obstacle seats or 0.1 per cent of the number of total seats in each venue.

Even the subtle details were considered. Doors shall be opened outside in convenience to wheelchairs; door frames in some venues needed to be dismantled to broaden as wheelchair-accessible; alarm-buttons and handbars were installed in every reformed non-obstacle toilets.

"To hold National Para Games is an great chance for us to support and accelerate programs and policies benefiting mentally or physically challenged people," said Shi.
