Chinese badminton Olympic champion Lin Dan said on Wednesday he has no intention to retire and that 2016 Rio Olympic Games might be his next goal.

"I've never told anyone I would retire from badminton. I just want to have a rest," Lin was quoted as saying by Xinhua on Wednesday.

After the London Games, where Lin clamed his second Olympic title in a row, the world No 1 was reportedly considering retirement. Lin denied that, and said he is trying to figure out his next goal.

"I hope I can set a new goal when I'm resting. At the same time, I also want to be relaxed and improve my physical condition," said Lin, who will turn to 29 in October.

"Anyway, I will try my best to play well in this year's Badminton Super League."

Despite confirming his participation in the national league, Lin said he is sure to be absent from international competitions for a while.

"I haven't decided when to return to the international court. At this time, I just want to take a break for as long as possible," he said.

"And of course, if my rivals play at the Rio Olympics, I think the 2016 Olympics will be one of my targets, too."

His archrival, Malaysian player Lee Chong Wei, who was beaten by Lin a the London Olympic men's singles final, is likely to be his top opponent in 2016 again.

"As far as I know, Lee will play for at least two more years," he said.

"So, I've never said I would retire right now. I will adjust myself well so that I can show my best form again when I'm back to play."
