RIO DE JANEIRO - Sporting Lisbon has signed Brazilian midfielder Gerson Magrao to a one-year contract, the Portuguese top-flight side confirmed on Friday.
The 28-year-old former Dynamo Kiev player joins the club from Brazilian outfit Figueirense, where he was let go by manager Adilson Batista in June.
"It makes me very happy to join a club with such a rich history like Sporting," Magrao said during a press conference. "I can't promise trophies, but I can promise hard work."
"I will train as hard as I can to earn a spot in the starting eleven. I also hope to be able to pass on some of my experience to the younger players."
Magrao made 38 first-team appearance for Dynamo Kiev from 2009 to 2012 and has also had spells at Feyenoord, Flamengo, Santos and Cruzeiro.
Sporting also announced the signing of right-back Weldinho on a season-long loan deal from Brazilian giants Palmeiras.
