HUANGSHAN, China - The swimmers hit by diarrhea and low grade fever during the Chinese national championships are now in better condition, according to the event organizers.
The municipal government of Huangshan, the central Chinese city that hosted the five-day swimming championships, said on Sunday that the 20-plus sick swimmers have recovered and were on their way to home provinces and cities.
The Huangshan government added that the cause of the incident was still under investigation.
The sick athletes included Olympic champion Liu Zige and rising star Ning Zetao, who had withdrawn from the men's 50m freestyle competition on Saturday.
A total of 372 swimmers competed in the national championships held between October 14 and 18.
