The 74-year-old is being treated with intravenous antibiotics and is in a stable condition, Sao Paulo's Albert Einstein hospital said in a statement on Wednesday.
There was no information on when the three-time World Cup winner would be released.
Pele was discharged from the same hospital on November 13 after undergoing surgery to remove kidney stones.
The former Selecao No. 10 has suffered a long list of health problems in the past decade, including emergency eye surgery for a detached retina and a hip replacement.
