Situated in southeastern Zhashui county, Shaanxi province, in the middle reaches of Shechuan River, the Phoenix Ancient Town Scenic Spot boasts a well preserved ancient street initially built in the High Tang Period and prospering during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and 148 ancient residential buildings that were built in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic period. The town is dubbed an "Ancient Town on the Han River Deemed as a Living Fossil". At present, the town is trying to build itself into a National 3A Level Scenic Spot as well as the "Northernmost Southern-style Ancient Town in China." [Photo/People's Daily Online] |
