WASHINGTON - The United States and Japan will have a high-level security meeting here next Tuesday, the first of its kind in four years, the State Department said Friday.

Known as Security Consultative Committee (SCC) meeting, the talks will be attended by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto and Japanese Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa, it said in a statement.

The officials will discuss a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues, including the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, Afghanistan, missile defense technology transfer, and realignment of US forces in Okinawa.

A comprehensive joint statement will be issued at the meeting to articulate "common strategic objectives and efforts to enhance the US-Japan alliance," it said.
