NEW YORK - Lawyers for a multimillionaire charged with murdering her 8-year-old autistic son in a New York City hotel say she wasn't mentally ill. They say the pharmaceutical executive was "reasonably fearful" in feeling she was killing her child to protect him from people she said abused him.
Gigi Jordan's lawyers said in a court filing Tuesday that she doesn't plan an insanity defense. A previous Jordan attorney had suggested she might.
Jordan plans to argue that son Jude Mirra's death was an altruistic filicide, or a child killing by a parent who believes she's acting in the child's best interest.
Jude died of a prescription drug overdose in February 2010. Jordan was found incoherent. She'd left a letter indicating she planned to kill them both.
Prosecutors have called Jude's killing calculated.
