OTTAWA - One person was dead and another injured after a shooting at a daycare in Gatineau, Canada's capital region, on Friday morning. All 53 children as well as daycare staff were safe, police said.
Police were called to a home-based daycare, which is registered as Les Racines de vie Montessori in a residential area around 10: 30 am following reports of gunshots.
One person was found dead inside the home, but it's unclear if it was a man or woman, or if the person was killed by police or suffered a self-inflicted gunshot.
A police spokesman said a total of 53 children, including 48 older ones in one home and five babies in another other, were moved to a neighbor's home and provided food while waiting for their parents.
Sgt. Jean-Paul LeMay declined to give further details, adding that the scene was secure and there was no longer any danger and that police are investigating in the case.
