The North American Youth Chinese Orchestra (NAYCO) presented a wonderful variety of musical works at Houston Baptist University's Dunam Hall on May 3. The newly formed non-profit ensemble, led by renowned pipa virtuoso Wu Changlu, hopes to foster China's musical heritage among the younger generation. Houston Mayor Annise Parker received the group a week prior to the concert to show her support. At Wu's invitation, George Gao, composer and erhu virtuoso, made a special trip to Houston from China to encourage the group's mission. Both Wu and Gao performed solos, as well as with the ensemble.
