CAIRO - Egyptian former president Hosni Mubarak can't be transferred out of Sharm el-Sheikh international hospital for health and security reasons, the Interior Ministry said Tuesday.

The Interior Minister Mansour Essawy has informed the General Prosecutor Abdel Maguid Mahmoud of Mubarak's health status, saying that "Mubarak is suffering from heart problems which necessitate a well-equipped intensive care unit and highly skilled personnel for continuous monitoring which are not available in military hospitals."

"Mubarak suffered from a heart problem that could make it stop suddenly," the minister added.

The ex-president was hospitalized on April 12 after he suffered a heart attack during questioning by prosecutors, one day before the top prosecutor ordered to detain him and his two sons for 15 days.

Mahmoud ordered on Sunday to transfer Mubarak to a military hospital till Tora prison hospital is ready to receive him.

He tasked the Interior Ministry with completing quickly the installation of necessary medical equipment at Tora prison hospital to receive Mubarak.

A report by forensic doctors showed Mubarak's health was well enough to be moved to the Tora prison hospital, but the conditions of the hospital are still not prepared. It will take one month to install the required medical equipment in its intensive care unit, according to the report.

Mahmoud decided on Friday to extend the detention of Mubarak for another 15 days on charges of corruption, using violence against protestors and facilitating gas deals with Israel.
