RAMALLAH -- The United States has not notified the Palestinian leadership of any objection to a national agreement that rival Palestinian groups will sign Wednesday in Cairo, a Palestinian official said.

On Tuesday, Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton talked over the phone and there were no US signs that the agreement between Hamas and Fatah is rejected, said Yasser Abed Rabbo, a member of Palestine Liberation Organization's Executive Committee.

The conversation focused on Israel's decision to halt transferring tax revenues to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) after the announcement of the reconciliation deal, he said.

Israel said it doesn't want the money to reach the Islamic Hamas movement, which is sworn to the destruction of the Jewish state.

Abed Rabbo said that the Palestinian leadership respects the agreements and obligations it signed with Israel and that the PNA and the PLO "do not violate the basis and principles that the international community adopts."

The Egyptian-brokered agreement envisions the formation of a technocratic government to rule the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and the West Bank, where the Fatah-led PNA holds sway.

The agreement will end the split that has widened since Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces and took over the Gaza Strip.
