TEHRAN - The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) killed five Kurdish rebels in northwestern Iran, the official IRNA news agency reported Sunday.
The IRGC managed to destroy the biggest compound of "anti- revolutionary" forces and the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan ( PJAK) "terrorist" group members near the northwestern city of Sardasht late Saturday, said the report.
An informed source told IRNA on Sunday that five of the " terrorists" were killed in the operation launched by the IRGC against them.
The operation, conducted in the Amirabad region of Vazineh district, lasted from late Saturday until Sunday dawn, said IRNA.
Bodies of the five were transferred to Sardasht, the source was quoted as saying.
Western Iran witnessed regular armed clashes between Iranian security forces and Kurdish militant parties, in particular the PJAK, an anti-Iran Kurdish group linked to Turkey's outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK).
