HAVANA - Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro visited Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez at a local medical center, Chavez said in his Twitter account Monday.
Chavez, who is undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer in Havana, said he watched the Venezuela-Chile soccer match of the 2011 America's Cup together with Castro, an icon of Cuba's revolutionary.
"Fidel brought fortune" to the Venezuelan team, said Chavez. The team won 2-1 and now will play in the semifinals of the tournament for the first time.
Chavez on Sunday began the second stage of cancer treatment in Cuba, after arriving in the island nation Saturday night.
Chavez received two surgeries in Cuba in June to remove a pelvic abscess and a cancerous tumor.
Chavez's leave for treatment was officially approved by the Venezuelan parliament and part of his duties have been delegated to Vice President Elias Jaua and Minister of Planning and Finance Jorge Giordani.
Under the Venezuelan Constitution, the parliament can declare a temporary lack of head of state when the president is absent for less than 90 days and hands over his duties to the vice president. The president's leave can be extended by an additional 90 days.
