TRIPOLI - NATO carried out airstrikes against Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi's compound in the Libyan capital of Tripoli early Tuesday, the Dubai-based Al-Arabiya cited rebel sources as reporting.
The unnamed sources said they could hear the attacks from near the Bab Al-Aziziyah, and bombings could also be heard near the Mitiga airbase, according to the report.
The airstrikes came as the rebels continue their efforts to capture Tripoli, sending in more fighters and weapons.
Libyan rebels used three days to advance from Tripoli's outskirts into the city center, who now captured most of the capital except Bab Al-Aziziyah with unexpected speed and meeting with minor resistance. Gadhafi's elder son Mohammed and second son Saif al-Islam are both under custody of the opposition.
