China, Myanmar to boost military ties

BEIJING- A senior Chinese military official said Monday that China cherishes friendly relations with Myanmar and hopes to enhance their military relationship.

Chen Bingde, chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), made the remarks while meeting with Myanmar's Commander of the Armed Forces Min Aung Hlaing.

Hailing the China-Myanmar friendly relationship, Chen said bilateral relations have developed well through the joint efforts of both sides.

Chen said the two militaries have expanded pragmatic and effective cooperation in a wide range of fields in recent years, such as high-level visits, personnel training, frontier defense and equipment cooperation.

"As developing countries, both China and Myanmar need a peaceful and  stable surrounding environment," Chen said.

Chen also proposed the two military forces enhance mutual trust and deepen cooperation.

Min Aung Hlaing reiterated that Myanmar will firmly adhere to the one-China policy and expressed appreciation for China's support for Myanmar's military development,saying that Myanmar hopes to enhance its comprehensive, strategic partnership with China.
