LOS ANGELES - The detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) are investigating possible role a suspect may have played in the shooting death of two Chinese students after the man was caught early Wednesday.

The suspect, whose name was withheld, suffered a leg wound after robbing four University of Southern California (USC) students at gunpoint around 12:40 am near the campus. The 24-year old male was sent to a hospital and remained in stable condition, according to LAPD spokesman Andy Neiman.

No other injuries were reported in the shooting, Neiman said.

The Chinese student community of the school once rumored a USC police officer was wounded, but it turned out later it was the suspect who was shot.

A public safety officer from the school was alerted by two male victims and started pursuit. The robbery took place near the intersection of 28th and Figueroa streets, and the suspect ran off after placing the stolen property in a backpack. Police recovered a handgun used by the suspect.

The latest shooting caused a stir among student community of the school, which has been impacted by a double murder of Chinese graduate students last week.

A memorial service is planned to take place at Shrine Auditorium a few blocks away from the robbery scene Wednesday evening, according to sources from USC's Chinese community.

Patrick Gannon, deputy chief of Los Angeles Police Department, said the victims were shot two to three times as they were sitting in a 2003 BMW around 1 a.m. last Wednesday.

Qu managed to get out of the car and tried to stagger to a nearby house before collapsing on the front porch. The shooter fled southbound after the shooting, and a black car was also seen leaving the area.

Minutes later, paramedics sent the victims to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead, Gannon said.

Police have checked surveillance video from the area in search of the car that left the crime scene shortly after the shooting. Detectives have come up with a list of 75 vehicles that match the vehicle's description, according to Gannon.
