WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama reaffirmed his administration's commitment on Monday to work together with China to build a new type of great power relationship.

When meeting with new Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai at the White House, Obama applauded the progress achieved in developing the US-China relations in the past four decades, noting that the two sides, with increasingly close links of interest, are cooperating to deal with a wide range of global challenges.

The two sides are facing new opportunities of advancing their bilateral relationship, which has just entered a new phase of development, said Obama.

Cui said the China-US relationship has largely maintained a momentum of healthy and steady development in recent years.

He pointed out that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Obama, during their telephone talks on March 14, have clearly charted the future course of advancing the bilateral ties.

China is committed to joining hands with the United States to continue pushing forward the China-US cooperative partnership, and exploring ways to build a new type of great power relationship based on mutual respect and win-win cooperation.
