China: On Sept 21, 1949, the first plenary session of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference was held in Zhongnanhai, Beijing. People’s Daily published an article entitled, “The demise of the old China and the birth of a new China” the next day. On September 30, the Declaration passed and it was announced that the People’s Republic of China had been established. On October 1, 1949, tens of thousands of people attended the founding ceremony of the PRC in Tian’anmen square and Chairman Mao Zedong announced the founding of the central people’s government. The National Day of China marks the birth of a new China which overthrew the imperialism, feudalism and rule of bureaucratic capitalism, and was a step toward the socialism. The National Day is celebrated throughout mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau with a variety of government or non-government-organized festivities, including fireworks and concerts. Public places, such as Tiananmen Square in Beijing, are decorated with a festive theme.
