Dr Wen-chien Cheng, co-curator of The Forbidden City: Inside the Court of China’s Emperors at the ROM, presents a vase decorated with a raised panchi motif, which is similar to the one that once belonged to the imperial family and is still housed in the Palace Museum in Beijing.
