DPRK wraps up parliamentary election

PYONGYANG - The parliamentary election in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) whas been wrapped up with all the candidates elected to the top legislature, the official KCNA news said on Tuesday.

KCNA said 99.97 percent of registered voters across the country participated in Sunday's ballot and all of 687 candidates were elected to the 13th Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), citing election results from the Central Election Committee.

Kim Yong Nam, president of the presidium of the SPA, Choe Ryong Hae, director of the General Political Bureau of the Korean People's Army, and Premier Park Pong Ju are included in the list of deputies.

The DPRK's top leader Kim Jong Un, who registered in constituency No. 111, was unanimously elected to the parliament, said KCNA on Monday. It is the first election for the SPA under the leadership of Kim Jong Un, who took power in December 2011 following the death of his father Kim Jong Il.

Parliamentary elections started Sunday to elect members to the top legislature. Eligible voters went to poll stations in different electoral districts to cast their votes for deputies of the 13th SPA, who will serve a five-year term in accordance with the DPRK constitution.
