1. Scholarship awards — TORONTO

Chinese Consul General in Toronto Xue Bing (centre, front row), is surrounded by the winners of China's National Outstanding Students Scholarships (NOSS) and Xinjiang Uygur Government Scholarships (XUGS) after the presentation ceremony on May 18 in Toronto. Eighteen PhD candidates from Canadian universities in Toronto, Waterloo, Western and Manitoba were awarded the NOSS and XUGS from the China Scholarship Council and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The scholarship, worth $6,000USD and more, goes to outstanding overseas Chinese postgraduate students who are financing their own education. 4,914 students have received the NOSS scholarship since the program's founding in 2003.
