President Xi Jinping said he and visiting US President Donald Trump have achieved new consensus, and their meetings were constructive and yielded fruitful results.

Xi made the remarks when he addressed journalists alongside Trump on Thursday.

The two presidents held talks as well as met with business leaders from both countries before facing the media at the Great Hall of People in central Beijing.

Xi said they exchanged in-depth views on China-US ties and major international, regional issues.

China will firmly stay committed to reform and opening-up, increase common interests with various countries and promote coordination among major countries, Xi said.

The successful development of both countries serves the interests of each other, and their good ties live up to the hope of the global community, Xi said.

The two countries should draft plans for their next step for economic cooperation, Xi said.

Trump voiced his appreciation for Xi's "gracious hospitality".

"In the coming months and years, I look forward to building an even stronger relationship between our two countries - China and the United States of America - and even closer friendships and relationships between the people of our two countries," Trump said.

Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday on a three-day state visit to China.
