How has the attitude toward tattoos in China changed in recent years?
People are getting bolder and more open-minded and are starting to ink permanent signs on very conspicuous places. For example, in the past, only folks in the (tattooing) business would get tattooed on the neck. But now, an increasing number of young men and women want to be inked there too. They want their "personal logos" to be more visible. Other conspicuous places include the area behind the ears.
What makes a good design and what is your favorite?
I always tell my customers that they should give thorough thought to the permanent sign they are about to ink on their skin. Try to imagine how peculiar it might look when you grow old and have a colorful cartoon image on your body.
I really like the traditional Chinese motifs and prefer to work and express myself on large-scale projects. I think these traditional motifs stand the test of time and represent good taste.
