Argentine nuclear plant warned against security problem(Xinhua)
Updated: 2007-12-05 10:07 BUENOS AIRES -- The visiting Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned against a security problem at a nuclear power plant in Argentina, Argentine website "El Mundo" reported on Tuesday. Mohamed ElBaradei told President Nestor Kirchner that the Atucha II nuclear power plant failed to meet security guidelines drawn up after the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Argentine First Lady and President-elect Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, who will take over the presidency from her husband on December 10, acted swiftly and called on federal planning minister Julio de Vido for improvements at the facility. The Atucha II nuclear power plant was constructed over 30 years ago in Zarate, a town in Buenos Aires province, which surrounds the nation's capital, Buenos Aires. |
