TIKRIT, Iraq -- A car bomb struck a police station in the town of Beiji in Salahudin province on Saturday, killing at least six people and wounding 15 others, a provincial police source said.

"An explosives-laden car detonated in the morning near a police station in northern Beiji, 200 km north of Baghdad, killing at least six people and wounding 15 others," the source said on condition of anonymity.

The blast damaged parts of the police station and several nearby houses and civilian cars, he added.

The toll could rise as rescue teams continue looking for more victims under the debris of the demolished houses, he said.

Iraqi security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation about the incident, as it was not clear whether the attack was caused by a suicide bomber or a parking car bomb, the source said.
