Updated: 2007-12-30 22:25 ISLAMABAD -- The assassinated Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto's son Bilawal was appointed on Sunday chairman of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Bhutto's husband Asif Ali Zardari was named co-chairman, local TV channel DAWN NEWS reported. A central executive committee of PPP held a meeting at Bhutto 's house in Naudero in the southern Sindh province on Sunday, making a decision that Bhutto's 19-year-old son Bilawal would lead the party with the assistance of some other senior leaders of the party, said the report. The decision came just three days after Bhutto was killed. " Bilawal is the new chairman of the party and Asif Ali Zardari will assist him as co-chairman," one of the party officials said. Former Pakistani Prime Minister Bhutto was killed in a suicide attack Thursday near the capital Islamabad. |
