Student critically wounded in US school shooting

WASHINGTON -- A male student was critically wounded in a school shooting in Memphis, Tennessee on Monday morning, police said.

It took place in the cafeteria of the Mitchell High School, FOXNews quoted Memphis police spokeswoman Monique Martin as saying.

The victim, a 17-year-old male student, was hospitalized in critical condition. He suffered at least two gun wounds.

Authorities have locked down the school and informed parents of the students of the school.

The suspect, a classmate of the victim, was arrested but no information was released about him.

The shooting highlighted a series of recent shootings in the United States.

Last Friday, a college girl shot dead two other classmates before killing herself at a college in Louisiana.

Last Thursday, an angry husband shot his teacher wife in an elementary school in Ohio. He later killed himself and his wife was wounded and survived the shooting.
