WASHINGTON -- A US man was convicted Tuesday of burning his 2-month-old daughter in a microwave last year at a motel in Galveston, Texas, according to The Galveston County Daily News.

Joshua Mauldin, 20, was found guilty of injuring a child by a jury in Galveston. The jury also found Mauldin guilty of using the microwave oven as a deadly weapon.

He faces a maximum sentence to life in prison and will have to serve half of any prison term before becoming eligible for parole.

Mauldin told police he threw and hit the baby before putting her first into the room's safe, then into the refrigerator and, finally, into the microwave oven. The little girl was badly burned and lost part of an ear. She is now in foster care.

Mauldin, who had pleaded insanity, remained expressionless as the verdict was read.
