KABUL - A poppy eradication police compound on Wednesday morning was attacked by Taliban militants, leaving two police dead and another injured in southern Afghan province of Helmand, an official said on Thursday.
Mohammad Hussein Andiwal, the provincial police chief, told Xinhua that Taliban insurgents fired five rockets on a poppy eradication police compound in Marja district of Helmand.
"Investigation is ongoing but no suspects have been arrested so far,"Andiwal said.
Meanwhile, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, the purported spokesman of Taliban, claimed responsibility for the rocket attack on police compound.
According to Andiwal, another 9 kidnappers who usually committed kidnapping in police uniforms were arrested in a secret operation in the Marja district Wednesday afternoon.
Conflicts and Taliban-related violence have left more than 300 people dead so far this year in war-torn Afghanistan, where Taliban militants recently have vowed to launch the "Spring offensive" to intensify their guerrilla-style attacks on national army and foreign troops.
