LUSAKA: Britain is seeking Zambia's support in its bid to host the 2018 World Cup, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Thursday.

British High Commissioner to Zambia Carolyn Davidson said on Tuesday that Britain's commitment to international sport was not something that begins and ends with hosting the 2012 Olympic Games, adding that its focus was also in hosting the World Cup.

She was speaking when she hosted a British swimmer Melanie Marshal, who is in the southern African country to help developing sports among young people, Daily Mail said.

Australia and the United States are some of the countries that are eyeing the 2018 World Cup, according to Daily Mail.

The British swimmer is in Zambia to work with a local organization- Sport in Action- in further strengthening sports ties between Zambia and Britain, Daily Mail said.
