Iran's president urges the West on nuclear swap agreement

ISTANBUL - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Tuesday that nuclear swap agreement was an opportunity that would not be repeated.

Speaking at a press conference here, Ahmadinejad said, the meeting among Iran, Turkey and Brazil in Tehran regarding nuclear swap agreement was an opportunity for the United States and its allies.

He stressed: "They should make best use of it (the agreement), opportunities will not be repeated."

Ahmadinejad is in Istanbul participating in the Third Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

The president said that Iran was always ready for dialogue within the framework of respect and justice.

Under an agreement signed among Turkey, Iran and Brazil in Tehran on May 17, Turkey will be the venue of uranium swap between Iran and the West.

With the agreement signed by Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Motaki and Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim, Iran committed to give the 1,200 kg of 3.5 percent enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for 20 percent enriched uranium it will receive from Western countries to be used as fuel in the nuclear research reactor in Tehran.

Tehran will receive the enriched uranium from the Vienna Group, comprising of the US, France, Russia and International Atomic Energy Agency, in Turkey.
